I cannot believe we are gearing up for the 100th day of school! Where is this year going? Our 100th day will fall on January 30, as long as we don't have any snow days between now and then.
The 100th Day of School is a big deal in Kindergarten. We have been learning to count to 100 all year, building each week and adding more numbers. We've been counting the days each day and we are excited! We have also learned to count to 100 by fives and by tens. WOW! January 28th will be a Math-filled Fun Day!
I will be planning many activities that will relate to the 100th Day of School. The kids will be counting, sorting, grouping, counting by multiples, singing, dancing, cutting and pasting for 100! Such fun!
Here is what I need you to do with your child. And actually, I really just want you to get them started and let them do all the work! They will need to bring in a poster with 100 items glued to it. This doesn't need to be a big poster, construction paper size is just fine. You can help them choose what to count and you can give them supplies. However, I really want them to do the counting. Encourage them to group items in tens or fives for easier counting. You can also help them decide on a layout for gluing that will lend itself to easy counting by classmates. (10X10 or groups of five, etc.) Do not do it for them! If they are off by a few, that's ok, just encourage them to do their best and check their work!
Secondly, I would like each child to wear 100 of something. I know, you are thinking right now, "Is this teacher crazy?" Yes and No! This activity is tons of fun! Keep it simple and let them help choose what to wear. You will be surprised how creative they are! Last year, I had a paper clip belt in my class, 100 curled ribbons pinned on a shirt in groups of 10, some fruit loop and cheerio necklaces, and more. It is so much fun to let them create. If you have trouble with ideas or if you need supplies, let me know. I can send some items home for you to create at home if needed.
Most importantly, have fun and make a really big deal about 100 Days!
