What is Truth in the Tinsel? Truth in the Tinsel is a way to ensure that the children learn the real meaning of Christmas through prayer, crafts, verses and discussions. It is a fun, engaging hour each day dedicated to Jesus!
We all decorate Christmas trees. Truth in the Tinsel is a way to decorate a Christmas Tree with the story of Jesus' birth. Each ornament tells a different part of the story. As your child gazes at an ornament, he/she will recall the story from class, the discussion and the feelings associated with the experience of making that ornament.
You see, each day, I have set aside an entire hour to this project. We begin by starting the ornament which will usually require either gluing or painting that will need to dry. While the ornament is drying, we gather for the bible story. The children listen to the verses from the bible. After I read the verses, we break it down into kindergarten friendly language that we can all understand and relate to. We talk about it, ask questions, think how would it feel if.... And then, we try to figure out why we are making whatever ornament we are making. How does that ornament connect to those verses?
After the story and discussion, we return to finishing the ornament. By the end of the day, hopefully, I will have hot glued the ribbon on with the attached verse tag. Finally, the children can hang the ornament on the tree!
On December 20, your child will come home with 15 ornaments telling the story of Jesus' birth, all hand made with verses attached. Hopefully, they will treasure this for years to come and as they hang their ornaments, they will be able to tell you a bit about the Christmas Story in their own words.
I am really excited about this project. It is my second year implementing this during December. I hope you and your child are as excited as I am.
Blessings to you and Merry Christmas!
