We have been very busy preparing for our Thanksgiving festivities. Our schools hosts a Thanksgiving Fest for the students each year and much preparation goes into it.
So far, we have made beautiful vases with autumn flowers in them for centerpieces. We have also beaded necklaces for our Indian costumes and created Thanksgiving Place-mats. This week, we will be working on our Indian Costumes. These will be super fun and super messy! We will be marble painting the shirts with shaving cream! Be sure to ask the kids all about it!
In addition to our preparations for the feast, we are learning about The First Thanksgiving as well. We have read several books already and will continue to talk about how the Pilgrims came to America for religious freedom and how the Indians helped them to adjust to their new surroundings. We are keeping it simple, but the message is there!
Also, this is the season of giving! Thank you all for your donations of canned food for The Salvation Army Project Joy. I know those items will be put to good use for families in need. Coming up soon, our class will be collecting fun band aids for children in the hospital long term. If you have ever known any child that needed to be hospitalized long term, you know that it is the little things that can make a big difference! A fun band aid can bring a smile to a cancer patient after blood is drawn, and this happens often! A young girl, Emily, is a cancer patient and she is collecting these fun band aids to donate to VCU Medical Center - 7th Floor. This is the Pediatric wing. Her goal this year is 3000 band aids. I would like our class to be a part of Emily's project. Just drop off a box or two of fun, latex free band aids into our classroom collection box outside our classroom door. Thank you in advance!
I am also preparing some very special Christmas activities for our children to aid them in learning and experiencing the birth of Jesus, our Savior. I can't wait to share it with you!
