It can be difficult to find out what happened in school each day, especially with little ones. They give one word answers or say they don't remember, in some cases, just tell you they don't want to talk about it! (I speak from experience!)
However, verbal conversation is a crucial element in early reading. Starting a conversation that will last more than one sentence may seem tough, but it is necessary. Not only will it build early reading skills, it will also build a strong bond that will last a life time!
So, to aid you in this endeavor, I will provide you will open ended starter questions for each day of the week. I will post these on the homework sheet and also here on the website. Please use them. As your child answers, engage them further with more open ended questions.
Maybe make a tradition out of an afternoon snack and a conversation about school. They will love it and look forward to it each day!
Here are some starters for this week:
Monday - Tell me about your Creation Book? What happened on the first day?
Tuesday - What kind of patterns did you learn in school today? (sound, action, color)
Wednesday - Tell me about the Fire Station?
Thursday - Can you tell me how fires burn? I'd like to hear about your candle experiment.
Friday - Did you make an animal out of shapes today? Tell me about it.
