The children rotate through the centers so they each experience all activities during our reading block. In a particular center, it is not about the quantity or work that a child produces, but it is about the quality and engagement of the student. I want them to be enjoying themselves, learning and reinforcing independently or with a friend and gaining some practice in a skill that we have already covered in class.
I will be introducing a new center this week. It will use electronic gaming devices. I have a small collection of Leapster and Nintendo DS games that fit our curriculum. Each week, 3 children will be asked to bring in their device if they have one and keep it at school for the week. Those 3 children will use their devices with my games during center time to reinforce reading and math skills. If your child does not have a gaming device, no worries! I have a couple that I will loan out. Please, please do NOT send in game cartridges. They are so small and I will NOT be able to keep up with them. Also, the games I have are all curriculum related. Not all games are, so I would like to use what I have.
I think the kids will really enjoy a gaming center and I am hopeful that it will motivate them to sharpen their skills while having fun! If you have any questions, feel free to email or call me.
Have a blessed week!
