Sight words on the other hand are words that when seen, your child should automatically know them. They are words that need to be committed to memory both for spelling and reading. They are high frequency words for life. Some sight words and spelling words will overlap in both categories, and I will pull from the spelling list if any sight words appear for the week.
So, for our Sight Word Bulletin Board, we are looking for just Sight Words, not spelling words. We want to be able to see these words everywhere to commit them to memory forever! I keep an updated list of sight words on this website to reference anytime. We add about 5 new sight words per week, so be sure to check back each week to see what new words are added. You can also see the sight words on our Word Wall in our classroom.
If you have any questions about the difference between Sight Words and Spelling Words, please let me know. The kids are excited to see words start appearing on our board, so keep sending them in! :)
